Addiction Treatment Redefined
At The Family MD, we recognize the powerful role telemedicine plays in making addiction treatment more accessible and patient-centered. In today’s fast-paced world, every recovery journey is unique. Sometimes, the biggest barriers to care are as simple as not feeling comfortable seeking treatment in person, wanting privacy, being unable to afford frequent visits, or not having the time or flexibility to attend monthly appointments.
That’s why The Family MD is available 365 days a year with guaranteed same-day appointments—so you can receive care on your terms. Our mission is simple: to make recovery easier, not harder.
Why Choose TheFamilyMD
What is Medication assisted treatment (MAT)?
MAT is an FDA- approved approach that combines medication with counseling/behavioral therapies to treat opioid dependence. The most promising of these medications is Suboxone (buprenorphine-naloxone), which helps reduce or eliminate cravings and withdrawals. It is estimated that opioid overdoses have decreased by 76% due to MAT.
How does Suboxone help?
Because it is a partial opioid itself, Suboxone is highly effective for removing any opioid or opioid- like substances that may be in your system (heroin, fentanyl, prescription pain killers, tianeptine, kratom, 7OH/7Hydroxy).
The advantages it has over other medications is that it is nearly impossible to overdose on it, it does not cause one to feel “high” when taking it, and unlike other opioids, one traditionally goes lower in dose over time instead of higher, thereby successfully quitting opioids.

There are three phases of Suboxone Treatment: Induction, Stabilization, and Maintenance.
- Induction. Goal is to transition off of opioids onto suboxone and to avoid precipitated withdrawal during this time. This will be during your first visit.
- Stabilization: During this phase the doctor will fine- tune the dosage to make sure that you do not have any cravings, withdrawals or side effects. Is usually within the first month or two
- Maintenance:The goal is to stay on a steady dose that allows you to rebuild your life while preventing relapse. Once that is achieved, you can discuss tapering off suboxone (if you so choose) with your doctor, which can vary from person to person.
prescribe adjunctive medication (ex: nausea/vomiting, constipation, insomnia, anxiety,
restless/irritability, sweats, etc) in addition to Suboxone
While TheFamilyMD doctors primarily prescribe Suboxone due to its safety profile, in
certain, unique situations we are able to prescribe Subutex if you are able to provide
documented allergy or adverse reaction to Suboxone.
The short answer is Yes, it is safe. The American College of Gynecology(ACOG) recommends Suboxone during pregnancy for the treatment of opioid use disorder as a safe and effective option that helps reduce the risks associated with opioid use and helps stabilize the intrauterine environment.
